Connecticut

Connecticut isn't the largest state in the country – in fact only two states are smaller – but it is loaded with industry, commerce, and educational outlets. Known as the Nutmeg State, Connecticut has 3.4 million residents, which makes it the fourth most densely populated state in the country.

Many Connecticut residents live close enough to commute to work each day into New York City. For years Connecticut has been known as a bedroom community of New York, close enough to provide access, but rural enough to offer a bit of peace and tranquility.

Connecticut is bordered on the south by Long Island Sound, on the west by New York, on the north by Massachusetts, and on the east by Rhode Island. The state capital is Hartford, one of 169 incorporated towns in Connecticut. The Connecticut River cuts through the middle of the state.

There are many places in Connecticut that provide a quality education. Attending any of these schools can potentially infuse the student with the sort of knowledge of investing it takes to make a living in the stock market. They might not necessarily want to make a living trading the market, but they will leave college with the skills to do so.

Yale University, which was established in 1701, is the state's signature school. It has produced five U.S. presidents. Other outstanding colleges and universities located in Connecticut include Trinity College, Wesleyan University, the University of Hartford, the University of Bridgeport, Post University, Connecticut College, Quinnipiac University, Fairfield University, Sacred Heart University, the University of Connecticut, and the U.S. Coast Guard Academy.

Each school offers finance classes, designed to inform students and help them leave school capable of using their investment education. For example, Roy Nutt received a degree at Trinity College and went on to be the co-founder of Computer Sciences Corporation, a nationally known internet technology service company.

The Barney School of Business typically draws high marks each year for its department of economics, finance and insurance. Bridgeport's finance and international business degrees are highly prized, as well.

Admission information for each of the state's colleges, universities and junior colleges are available at each of the school's websites. The largest is UConn, which has 28,000 students on its six campuses and has been the highest ranked public university in New England for the last eight years. UConn offers 105 majors, eight undergraduate degrees, 16 graduate degrees, and five professional degree programs.
